Live It Up 02:43
Live It Up (Cardier) The lunatic said to me, 'Put all your money on number 3!' Ain't no catch, ain't no hitch - We're comin' back filthy rich. Just gonna take it to the top - Well, y'know we'll never ever stop - Just gonna take it to the top - You and me, we're gonna live it up. Flash cars, movie stars, Bad dreams and caviar - Big cigars, all the frills - Light 'em up with fifty-dollar bills. Everybody runnin' scared - I fire a gun into the air - Tell you what I'm gonna do - Blow it all in a day or two. The lunatic said to me, 'Put all your money on number 3!' Later on, he told another guy, 'Put all your money on number 5!'

I Saved Annette From Drowning (Cardier) Well, I saved Annette from drowning late one afternoon - Oh yes, I just heard the sound of someone calling - All the beaches were deserted, I thought I was alone But I saw footprints in the sand where I was walking. Well, I saved Annette from drowning and I reached her just in time Oh, around about us all the waves came crashing - And it left us both so breathless as we made it to the shore Oh, the sea was dark and seemed like it was laughing. And sometimes, I think about it just like it was yesterday - And sometimes, it seems like I was only dreamin’ it - And you see it all so clearly and then it fades away But I still hear the way Annette said, ‘Hey! We’re makin’ it, Makin’ it!’ Well, I saved Annette from drowning, I said, ‘Swim between the flags.’ Oh she said, ‘Hey, let’s forget our obligations.’ By the shoreline, we were standing late one afternoon - Oh, it felt just like the first day of vacation.

Party 02:58
Party (Cardier) I just woke up in the bath - I just saw the aftermath - Man, that party left 'em all for dead - Get this lampshade off my head. Oh, what a party it was. Well, a smoky haze hung around the room - Arms and legs lyin' in the gloom - Walls with party food stickin' on - The biggest ashtray in the world Was the rug I stood upon. The cops said, 'You're in trouble deep!' They're over there smilin' in their sleep - Ah, the resolutions! I've forgotten them - There's a needle in a groove Goin' over and over and over again. I just woke up in the bath - I just saw the aftermath - We're gonna clear away the wreckage And as soon as that is done We're gonna have another one.
4.
Stars 03:53
Stars (Cardier) Take a look at you now - You're gonna make it somehow - I guess you got stars in your eyes - Just one even break - That's all that it's gonna take - Got to give it your best shot now. Up from the gutter on to the stage - Oh, doncha know you're gonna be all the rage. Stars. You'll be makin' it big - Just a couple more gigs - Gonna see that name up there in day-glo - They say you ain't gonna fail - They say you're cheque's in the mail - They say they'll call you right back But they don’t. Stars. But you got it planned - You're gonna be in demand - But you got the number of a friend of friend of a friend. Stars, You got stars in your eyes.
5.
Latin Quarter (Cardier) Senorita from the Latin Quarter Where the moon's the silver Of a cold revolver And she's so hot-blooded Yet she love me tender - She say Richie Valens loved her mother. In the Latin Quarter, that's alright - In the Latin Quarter, late at night. Senorita in stiletto heels - Well, she drink tequila Then she smash the glass And the warm breezes Caress the curtains Then comes the fragrance of the roses. Put your red dress on, red dress on - C'mon, c'mon, c’mon, c’mon - Put your red dress on - I said give us a twirl baby - Twist and shout - Twirl it round and round And round and round...
6.
Change Of Heart (Cardier) You don't look like you did before - You don't talk the same any more And there are times, we seem worlds apart - Just don't say you had a change of heart. You don't treat me like you always do - You don't act just like you used to - I should know why But I'm not that smart - Just don't say you had a change of heart. Oh, well I guess things are different now - Things are different now - Maybe it's time to face it. You had a change of heart. And y'know I got a feelin' that I just can't shake - And y'know there are decisions that we're gonna have to make - Well, maybe all that's needed is a little give and take But I don't wanna hear it, no no - I don't wanna hear you say You had a change of heart.
7.
Expectations 02:50
Expectations (Cardier) I useta think there was no-one who Could get to me the way you do But how could I be so mistaken - I was foolish, baby - I guess we just keep searching for Something but we're just not sure Exactly what it's gonna be But now I found you baby. Livin' up to those expectations - All I want is you - Are you livin' up to those expectations too? I useta be like someone who Spent a lifetime goin' through The jewellery at the jumble sale For something precious baby - Like you don't look any further Than tomorrow's weather, yeah Or maybe just yesterday's letters For something precious baby. Livin' up to those expectations - All I want is you - Livin' up to those expectations baby - Livin' up to those expectations And now I’m askin’ you Are you livin' up to those expectations too? I've been waitin', waitin' for a sign - Lately I've been thinking maybe We can make it shine.
8.
Flying Saucers (Cardier) The aliens are in the kitchen - She just screams and does the dishes - I take cover I'm a suspect - She's throwin' unidentified flying objects. Flyin' saucers, flyin' saucers - Baby, baby, take my hand - Baby, I don't understand. You say you saw a space invader Talk to your refrigerator - Don’t let love just disappear Like an unidentified flying object. Baby's gonna make it happen - Baby's got a secret weapon - All your words come through the air Like unidentified flying objects.

about

The Bel-Aires live at the Bellevue Hotel 1982

You couldn’t move. You could dance as long as it was dancing up and down on the spot.
Hot. Sweaty. Free chips and nuts on the bar and the air-con turned off so, inevitably, the beer kept flowing.
Wednesday night was Bel-Aires night.
Volume? Not an issue. Patrons grabbing a mike and joining in? Not a problem (up to a point). Songs played at breakneck speed? Of course.

This first incarnation of the Bel-Aires was Glenn Cardier (singer-songwriter, electric 12 string guitar), Brad Alick (lead guitar), Vinnie Crea (drums) and Paul Read (bass). The songs were Cardier’s. The sound was surf, Byrds, rockabilly chucked in the blender and poured down the throat of 80's Oz Pub Rock.

about

Glenn Cardier Sydney, Australia

Post 2000, Glenn Cardier’s re-emergence as a songwriter/performer of real distinction has been nothing short of extraordinary. In typical single-minded fashion, he writes, performs and produces his music. Onstage, there are the trademark flashes of dark humour and thumping rockabilly/blues. But underlying it all are the songs. Happy/sad songs. Sweet/crazy songs. Cardier songs. CDs on the website. ... more
