Exiles From Eden (Glenn Cardier) Would you walk with me Down on Station Street? If I knocked upon your door Would it be trick or treat? Would you turn away If we chanced to meet? Would there be a place Where all shall be forgiven? Well, I wonder now, Did you have your doubts? Did you ever question just What it was all about? Oh, and in the end Would it all play out As if from a dream We’d been awoken? Was it long ago, Was it far away? Would it seem like it Had happened only yesterday? Well, it must admit that Still you take my breath away - I will talk of times when Hearts were never broken. Would I say it was Such a perfect love Or would we agree that Close enough was good enough? Could we pick it up From where we left off As we sing the songs Of those who are forsaken? If it falls apart, Well now, them’s the breaks - And I’ll be the first to say That I made my mistakes - Oh, but there were times When it got all too much to take - Maybe we just could not see For looking. Would you walk with me From the cul-de-sac? Could we try to separate The fiction from the fact? Knowing all along There’s no turning back, As we laugh it off Like nothing ever happened. Was it long ago, Was it far away? Would it seem like it Had happened only yesterday? We are exiles from Eden, Be that as it may - We’ll come to a place Where all shall be forgiven. We'll come to a place Where all shall be forgiven.

Angelica 04:17
Angelica (Cardier) Let the festivities begin - Let the craziness commence - Just dunno why it’s so But Angelica when you go Into your dance It all makes perfect sense - Well alright. You got me ridin’ on a carousel - You got me wishin’ at the wishin’ well - Still I say I’m ok - Got a smile painted on my face - Anyone can tell I’m doin’ well - Uh huh. You got me goin’ like I dunno what - You got me givin’ it all I got - Beat that drum hurrumpa tum - Blow that trumpet now here I come ready or not, ready or not - Well alright. Said hey now now, Angelica - Oh, come along with me - I’ll dance you down the street - We’ll sing at the fiesta - Tell me, what’s it gonna be My sweet Angelica? You shake the apple from the apple tree - You make my poor heart skip a beat - Light that fuse, break the truce - Come on baby, let’s get footloose And fancy -ree - Just you and me - Uh huh. Get me lost at the Mardi Gras - Get me drunk at the Monkey Bar - Tell that guy on the saxophone, ‘Don’t never leave that song alone - Just play it hard, play it fast - Play it all night, all night long - Play that song, play it all night long - Well, well, well, alright.

Cold Out There (Glenn Cardier) It’s gettin’ cold out there, I think it’s settin’ in - It’s like there’ll be no sun anymore; No sun anymore. And I’m stuck inside of here, Had just about enough And I’m gonna haveta do somethin’ soon   About this cough - Can’t shake it off. Y’know it’s cold out there, Worst I ever seen - Y’know it’s cold out there, Colder than it’s ever been. I really don’t recall When the change kicked in - It’s like I just got caught unawares - You turn ’round, and it’s there And you’re shiverin’. Y’know it’s cold out there….. But it don’t matter now - Y’know it’s alright - It don’t matter now - I keep a fire goin’ in here Until the weather clears. Y’know it’s cold out there….. Get the picture from the wall - Furniture and all - Get that stuff and pile it up high - Set the whole thing alight In the middle of the floor. Y’know it’s cold out there…..

Watch Out (Love Gonna Getcha) (Cardier) You gotta watch out, love gonna getcha - Gotta watch out, love gonna getcha - Make you feel bad, feel good - Do the things you never thought you could - It’s Hollywood, gonna put you in the picture. You gotta watch out, love gonna getcha - Watch out, love gonna getcha - Make you say yeah when you wanna say no - Give the big, bad world a rosy glow - Make you high, low, make you think it don’t upset ya. And I got the sun when it should be rainin’ And I got the rain when it should be fine - Catches me out each and every time. You gotta watch out, it could be catchin’ - Gotta watch out for the complications - Make you laugh, cry, glad you’re alive - Feel like you just wanna lay down and die - Make you fly high, make you come down crashin’. You gotta watch out, love gonna getcha - Watch out, love gonna getcha - Make you jump for joy, scream for more - Jump from the 42nd floor - It’s a meteor and it’s comin’ right at ya.

Invisible Ink (Cardier) It’s alway so very quiet in here. You’d hear a feather falling through air. Try not to be too dispirited. Better to leave some things unsaid. Let them all think you have nothing to say. Never give too much of yourself away. Close up the curtain, dim down the light. Move all your most precious things out of sight. Oh, there are so many secrets we keep When there is no-one to sing us to sleep. What would you say? What would you think? Write it all down in invisible ink. Biding your time and seeing it through. Putting aside what’s important to you. Those who would try to keep you in your place Would never suspect by the look on your face. Oh, there are so many secrets we keep When there is no-one to sing us to sleep. What would you say? What would you think? Write it all down in invisible ink. Pour out your heart at the end of the day All of the things you’ve been meaning to say. Page after page. Page after page. Page after page.

Drive That Car (Cardier) Well, gas it up, time to run - Gonna have some fun now, baby - Hey now, doncha worry none - What’s done is done - Let’s hit that highway. Gonna drive that car, gun the sucker - C’mon c’mon, let’s get outa here - Gonna drive that car, burn the bridges - Take us all the way to who-the-hell-knows-where. Well, hold on tight, brakes are broke - This thing is shakin’ and it’s blowin’ smoke - Love you baby, that is that - Hold on tight and don’t look back. And I said uh huh, I had to blow this town - Well, I was goin’ anyhow. Well, gas it up, it’s boom or bust - Run ‘em ragged, laugh like crazy - Y’know they won’t see us for dust - Goin’ out in a blaze of glory. And I said uh huh, well, it was understood - Baby, we’d be gone for good.

Life Of The Party (Cardier) We are the life of the party And we sparkle like diamonds - And we dance in the spotlight At the finest occasions - Where no hearts are broken, No words left unspoken - And we sing in celebration Of undying love. So here's to us, baby - Sha la la la we sing - When you're in love You got the world on a string - When you're in love, love - Sha la la la now baby - Sha la la la we sing. We are the life of the party On this night to remember - And I drink to you beauty And I live for your laughter - And we move through this place In our effortless grace With a love that will last Forever and ever. We are the life of the party - We are the stars of the show But all we need to see Is what we see in each other - And as for that champagne, Well, just keep it coming - Let's live it up like there's no tomorrow.

Flash Guitar 03:57
Flash Guitar (Cardier) Well, this city ain't too pretty - It's all goin' nowhere fast - Seems like everything's just about to fall apart - Well, I come to a stop at the opportunity shop - They had lotsa junk but hangin' up In the window was a flash guitar. It was only fifty dollars - That was all I had in the world - It was electric, it was smothered in That plastic mother-of-pearl - I got it home, shone the chrome - It had a certain je ne sais quoi - It was a heaven-sent instrument And I played the hell outa that flash guitar. I was playin' for beer money - Had a brand new set of strings - I could make it sound like cryin' Or the surf crashin' in - Well, you live and you learn And sometimes you get burned - Cos the minute my back was turned Someone snuck up and stole the thing. Mmm, that flash guitar. Well, it's ancient history to me now - The photo fades with age - There I am with that low-slung guitar Up there on some stage - Seems like it's a picture of a stranger Who once came to stay And I can almost hear it now Echoin' from far away. Well, this city ain't too pretty - Still goin' nowhere fast - Things all gettin' torn down - Nothin's ever built to last - Well, I wasn't really looking for Anything in particular But I stopped at that opportunity shop Cos hangin' in the window was that flash guitar. Mm, that flash guitar. Well, I walked right in and got it - I had a big old stupid grin And I heard 'em say, 'What the hell Do you see in that thing?' I said, 'Maybe I'll play for beer money, Maybe I'll shine just like a star!' And I heard 'em say, 'You'll be all the rage When you hit the stage with that flash guitar!' Mm, that flash guitar.

Water Into Wine. (Glenn Cardier) Now you see it, now you don’t - Now, it’s here, baby, then it’s gone - Say you will, say you won’t - Right way round is back to front - Call for the magician to make it all disappear - I’m turnin’ water into wine, Water into wine, yeah. Ain’t no doubt, baby, ain’t no doubt about it - I was down, baby, I was out - Goin’ down, down for the count - Wrong way round the roundabout - Gonna take a miracle to get from here to there - I’m turnin’ water into wine, Water into wine, yeah. Oh baby, believe me when I say - We’re gonna find a way - Gonna be some changes made. You say this, baby, I say that - This, that, this, that - You say somethin’, I say somethin’ back - Maybe it’s white, maybe it’s black - Standin’ here pretendin’ that I was elsewhere - I’m turnin’ water into wine, Water into wine, yeah. Oh baby, what am I gonna do - You know it’s true - Baby, I’m a fool for you. Now you see it, now you don’t - Now, it’s here, baby, then it’s gone - Say you will, say you won’t - Right way round is back to front - Call for the magician to make it all disappear - I’m turnin’ water into wine, Water into wine, yeah.

Uncharted Waters Take me in your arms - It feels just like we’re driftin’ Upon an ocean blue With nothin’ else to do - We just set our sails for uncharted waters - I don’t mind at all - Don’t care if we do - Long as I’m with you. Oh, where do we go from here? Tell me, what you got in mind - Sometimes we search for answers Where there’s none to find - You know they say what will be will be - Nothin’ much on the horizon as far as I can see - There’s just you and me. Take me in your arms ……. We try to read the seasons But I just gotta say sometimes I just want to gaze into your eyes And never wonder why - And never wonder why…

Face The Day 03:55
Face The Day (Cardier) Well, sometimes it don’t seem so bad but then it just keeps comin’ at you till you come undone - I’m ready, baby. I can take it on - And sometimes it’s tough gettin’ enough courage up to say the simplest thing - And when the time comes, baby, you don’t say anything - But if I’m ever up against those kinda odds, you’ll never see such bravery - I’m ready, baby, ready as I’ll ever be. Doncha know it’s time to face the day. Well, maybe we’ll just tidy up all the stuff that we’ve left lyin’ round here Or maybe we won’t, it’s ok anyway - But if I could be so bold as to say there were those things that we did so very well As far as I could tell - Sometimes, you know it just works out that way - It’s time to face the day. Well, it seems like things just keep on fallin’ apart but still you, Still you find it in your heart to let it all go by - Let it all go by. We can make it if we try. We can make it if we try. Y’know I ain’t got much fight left in me But that’s alright, I still got some dignity - I’m ready, baby, ready as I’ll ever be.

She’s The One For Me (Cardier) She stands on the verandah dressed as Carmen Miranda - The neighbours just can’t stand her but that’s alright with me. She say she love me madly, then she look at me sadly And then she treat me badly - She’s the one for me. She dances on the table anytime she’s able - Don’t tell me she’s unstable, that’s not what I see - We got a bed that rattles, sounds like a herd of cattle In the heat of the battle - She’s the one for me. Y’know I never doubt her, love everything about her - Just can’t live without her, she’s such a mystery - She’s the one for me. We wander by the ghetto singing from Rigoletto In a high falsetto, ah, we was meant to be - She tells me she adores me, then she just ignores me - Ah, but she never bores me - She’s the one for me. Y’know I never doubt her, love everything about her - Just can’t live without her, she’s such a mystery - She’s the one for me. She’s back on the verandah dressed as Carmen Miranda - She looks lovelier than ever - Y’know I never doubt her, love everything about her - Just can’t live without her, she’s such a mystery - She’s the one for me. She’s the one for me.

Catch Me If I Fall (Cardier) Hey now baby, it’s alright - I’m in my Sunday best fightin’ that good fight - Singin’ ‘Hallelujah’ ‘cos I seen the light - And just as well ‘cos I was raisin’ hell late last night. Oh, catch me if I fall - Times like these I love you most of all. Well, everything gets outa hand - I do my best to make amends - I gotcha flowers, apologise for hours - Soon as your back is turned I do it all again. Oh please, open up that door - I won’t let you down no more. Well, all the same it’s a cryin’ shame - It’s the Boom Boom Room that’s to blame - I try thinkin’ good and proper - I try stickin’ to the rules - Put a drink in my hand and I’m a wild-eyed Dancin’ fool. Oh, believe me when I say I promise not to break the promises I make. Who’s ever gonna save this mortal soul - It’s such a long way down when you’re ten feet tall - Who’ll get me off my knees, lean me against the wall? Who’s gonna clean me up and blame it on the alcohol? Oh, catch me if I fall - Times like these I love you most of all.

All’s Well (That Ends Well) (Cardier) Not a care in the world, not a cloud in the sky - Ain’t nothin’ doin’ and no-one askin’ why - No voice raised in anger, no trouble in mind - That’s all in the past, now things are just fine. Put a smile on your face and say to yourself All’s right with the world, all’s well that ends well. No complications, nothin’ left to think through - No more disappointment in all that you do - Been nothin’ but hard times comin’ to call - You laid ‘em to rest once and for all. Well, it’s alright now, hmm - Yes, it’s alright now. And there’s nothin’ at all disturbin’ your thoughts - And it don’t matter what you are or you’re not - Nothin’ to agree to, nothin’ to deny - Not a care in the world, not a cloud in the sky. Put a smile on your face and say to yourself All’s right with the world, all’s well that ends well.

about

Glenn Cardier Sydney, Australia

Post 2000, Glenn Cardier’s re-emergence as a songwriter/performer of real distinction has been nothing short of extraordinary. In typical single-minded fashion, he writes, performs and produces his music. Onstage, there are the trademark flashes of dark humour and thumping rockabilly/blues. But underlying it all are the songs. Happy/sad songs. Sweet/crazy songs. Cardier songs. CDs on the website. ... more
